Acrylic is the material most office signage ends up in, and for good reason. It cuts cleanly, takes colour and print well, polishes to a glass-like edge, layers into depth, and lights beautifully. It is also the material where sloppy work shows fastest. A chipped edge, a visible fixing, a logo mounted a degree off level, and a sign that cost very little to make ruins a reception that cost a great deal to build.

Most office signage does not need to light up. Cut acrylic letters, layered panels, printed plaques and door signs get their presence from thickness, edge finish and how they are mounted. A 10mm panel on standoffs reads completely differently from a 3mm panel taped flat, and the choice between them is a design decision rather than a budget one. We advise on it rather than quoting whatever is cheapest to cut.
Illuminated Acrylic Signs
Where the sign needs to carry a reception or hold a wall on its own, acrylic and LED do it well. Face-lit letters glow evenly through a diffused face. Halo-lit letters throw light back onto the wall and leave the face solid. Edge-lit panels catch light through the acrylic itself. Each needs different construction, different LED spacing and a plan for how the driver is accessed later, which we detail before fabrication.
Edges, Finishes and Fixing Methods
With acrylic, the specification details are what separate a sign that looks bespoke from one that looks bought. These are the decisions we take you through before anything is cut.
- Thickness: from thin plaques to heavy dimensional letters, chosen for the viewing distance and the presence the sign needs.
- Edge finish: flame-polished, machine-polished, matt or painted edges, which is the single most visible quality difference on clear acrylic.
- Surface finish: clear, frosted, satin, gloss, mirrored or coloured, with paint applied to the second surface where a glass-like depth is wanted.
- Layering: stacked acrylic to create depth, shadow and separation between logo elements.
- Colour matching: painted and printed acrylic matched to your brand references rather than to a standard sheet colour.
- Fixing method: standoff barrels, concealed pins, flush adhesive or slot fixings, selected for the wall substrate as well as the look.

Materials and Workshop Capability
Acrylic is the starting point rather than the limit. Most of the signs we make combine two or three materials, and doing that well means cutting and finishing them all in the same place.
